AEA STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS: AEA is pleased to offer an extensive travel award program thanks, in part, to the generosity of donations from professional development speaker’s fees. The Association awards two types of student travel awards, each with its own criteria and submission process.

TYPE I AWARDS -  DEADLINE has passed: Up to eight $500 travel awards will awarded to full-time students to offset their conference attendance costs.

Please reflect on Eleanor Chelimsky's article The Political Environment of Evaluation and What It Means for the Development of the Field that appears in "Evaluation for the 21st Century: A Handbook" (pages 53-68, SAGE, 1997) and develop an essay relying on it as a point of departure. You may choose to reinterpret the article based on insights and experiences from throughout the field, or use it to comment on the current state of our understanding of the consequences of evaluation.

 

Please limit your response to 500 words and send it as an attachment via email to office@eval.org on or before May 1, 2006. Please note in the email subject line: "Submission for Type I travel award" and, at the top of your essay, include your full name and the institution at which you are currently enrolled full-time.

• Winners will be selected and notified on or before July 1.

• Winners will be asked to contribute to a session at the conference that includes a structured discussion with the article's author.

• Note that if you have difficulty obtaining the article through your teachers, university library, or inter-library loan, please contact the office and we will work with you to access a copy.

TYPE II AWARDS - DEADLINE has passed:  Up to four $500 travel awards are available to full-time students submitting conference proposals for papers identifying ways to increase the racial/ethnic diversity of people entering the field of evaluation and/or ways to increase the multicultural competencies of all evaluators. All students may compete for these scholarships; however, special consideration will be given to students who themselves will increase the racial/ethnic diversity of presenters at the conference. Winning proposals will be presented during a special session sponsored by the Multiethnic Issues TIG. Proposals that do not win will be reviewed as part of the general pool of proposal submissions.

THE APPLICATION AND SUBMISSION PROCESS FOR TYPE II AWARDS:
1. Send an emailed cover letter to Imelda Castaneda-Emenaker at imelda.castaneda@uc.edu. In the body of your email, note “Submission for Type II Student Travel Awards” and indicate your racial or ethnic background, and the title of the proposal you intend to submit. Questions may be directed to Dr. Castaneda-Emenaker via email or via phone at (513) 556-3816.
2. Submit the proposal itself by the March 17, 2006 deadline using the regular conference proposal submission guidelines. Select “Multiethnic Issues TIG” as the group to review your proposal. Only proposals that focus on the issues stated above will be considered.
