The following resources are provided to assist you as you make your plans to travel to and from, and secure discounted accommodations for, Evaluation 2006.
GETTING TO AND FROM PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
This year, the conference will be held in the heart of Portland with sessions at the Hilton, the Hilton Towers, and the Heathman hotels and accommodations at the Hiltons, the Heathman, and the Paramount. Located within easy walking distance of one another, the distances among these hotels are as close as walking from one end to the other of last year's huge single property. EVALUATION
2006 HOTEL LOCATIONS
AEA has secured discounted conference rates at each hotel and we are excited to be able to offer such a range of accommodations for 2006. The hotels will honor the discounted rates, based on availability, for three days before and after the conference. Please consider staying the week and taking advantage of all that Portland has to offer! Stay tuned to this page for more information from our local arrangements team regarding things to do and see in Portland.
Hotel Update - September 18: As of September 18, all room blocks at the conference hotels listed below are reported as sold out. While we will be looking for another room block, we have not been able to identify one at this time. You may wish to call the hotels listed below to confirm that there has not been a cancellation. If you are seeking a hotel, we recommend that you go to http://www.pova.com/hotelmap/map.php to review the Visitor's Association map of downtown hotels (the headquarters hotel, the Hilton, is at numbers 20 and 21) and then use a hotel service such as www.hotels.com to select and book a hotel - or contact any of the hotels directly. Some alternate hotels do have small numbers of room available, simply not enough to book a full conference block. Please note that AEA cannot recommend individual hotels beyond those that are listed below as we have not had the opportunity to visit and review them.
(SOLD OUT!) Hilton (Conference Headquarters Hotel): The Main Hilton and the Hilton Executive Tower are diagonally across the street from one another and, between the two, house the majority of the conference space. The Hiltons offer classic elegance in the heart of downtown Portland. The Hilton Main building has a large health club ($10 fee per day for those staying in either Hilton), while the Hilton Executive Tower has a smaller fitness room as well as a lap pool (free of charge for those staying at either Hilton). High speed Internet is available at either location (fee $9.95 per 24 hours). All guestrooms also feature the Hilton Serenity Collection with luxury Suite Dream beds and linens and bath products from Crabtree and Evelyn. The rooms at the Hilton Executive Tower are larger and feature a large work area and upgraded amenities including terrycloth robes and bottled water.
(SOLD OUT!) Benson Hotel: This lovely Conde Nast recommended historic landmark property is the only hotel in Portland to receive AAA's 4-diamond award for both its accommodations and its restaurant, the timeless London Grill. The Benson provides modern luxury in a classic setting. Wireless high-speed Internet is available for $9.95 per day in all guestrooms and select rooms are hard-wired for high-speed Internet as well at the same price. If you require a secure connection, please request a hard-wired room when making your reservation. New Tempur-Pedic mattresses encourage a great night's sleep amidst the elegant surroundings. A limited fitness center with both cardio vascular and weight equipment is free to guests. The Benson is located approximately a leisurely 10-minute walk (5-6 minutes at a good ciip) down Broadway, past great shopping and coffee shops, from the Hilton (AEA's Headquarters Hotel).
(SOLD OUT!) Portland Marriott City Center: Located in the heart of the Rose City, the Marriott Portland City Center on Broadway allows guests to tap into the pulse of Portland's most enchanting urban rhythms. The Marriott Portland hotel is just four short blocks ( a 5-7 minute walk) down Broadway from the conference headquarters hotel (The Hilton Main Building). Marriott guests can unwind in the oversized whirlpool at our 24-hour fitness center, or sit back for cocktails and conversation in the Marriott's Shula's Lounge. The Marriott City Center is one of the two conference hotels offering rooms at the government rate for government employees with proper ID (please confirm that you qualify with the hotel when making reservations). Please note that all rooms are limited and will be available only until sold out or until October 6, whichever comes first.
(SOLD OUT!) Heathman Hotel: Named to the 2005 Conde Nast Traveler Gold List and the 2005 Travel & Leisure Top 500 Hotels in the World, the Heathman is an amazing boutique hotel where you truly feel at home (but with a maid, a concierge, and really nice linens). The Heathman is located diagonally across the street from the other corner of the Main Hilton building and it will host three of the breakout rooms for the conference. Your own personal concierge will check you in, escort you to your room, and turn down your bed and lay out your eyeshades and bathrobe for the evening. A call to the front desk and you have free access to any of the more than 400 films from the hotel's movie collection to enjoy with the complimentary French Press Coffee and Herbal Teas found in each room. Or, check out a book from the hotel's library signed by one of the many authors that have stayed at the Heathman. High speed internet is complimentary in all rooms as is use of the small workout room. Room size varies with the smallest rooms being their Deluxe offerings and with the size increasing through to the Executive and Symphony rooms. All rooms receive the same award-winning service and amenities. And, did we mention the Heathman Restaurant where Executive Chef Phillipe Boulot, winner of the 2001 James Beard Award for Excellence, presides?
(SOLD OUT!) Paramount Hotel: Opened in January of 2000, the Paramount is an upscale boutique property built in the neo-classical style. The Paramount is located one short city block from the Hilton Main hotel. Rooms are large and inviting with local photography adorning the walls. The welcoming open lobby, and in-house Dragonfish Cafe restaurant offering fusion pan-Asian cuisine, make the Paramount a great option for your week in Portland. Wireless internet access is available for $9.95 per day and the hotel's small workout room is free to its guests. The Paramount Hotel is the only conference hotel offering a limited number of rooms at the government rate for government employees with proper ID (please confirm that you qualify with the hotel when making reservations). Please note that rooms at the government rate are limited and will be available only until sold out or until August 30, whichever comes first. Their Executive Rooms feature a beautiful, larger, corner room with two windows and a generous jetted tub.
