Session Title: System Dynamics for Cheapskates
Demonstration Session 207 to be held in  Galleria I on Thursday, November 2, 9:25 AM to 10:55 AM
Sponsored by the Systems in Evaluation TIG
Presenter(s):
Bill Harris,  Facilitated Systems,  bill_harris@facilitatedsystems.com
Abstract: System dynamics and other systems approaches are increasingly discussed in evaluation circles, but acceptance of system dynamics is slow because of the need for training and the expense of tools. See how you can create powerful, useful system dynamics models using totally free software. This demonstration will walk through the process of addressing a problem through system dynamics from start to finish, showing the steps, the tools, and the results. It will compare this approach against the alternative of using commercial simulation software. At the end, participants will take away a handout outlining the steps in the process and listing the tools used in the demonstration so they can explore the process in more depth on their own. All of the software shown will be cost-free, and it will run on Linux, OS X, and Windows.
