| Abstract: This demonstration will provide an introduction to the field of social network analysis (SNA). SNA is a specific type of analysis that is interested in the relationship between people, places or things (called actors). Rather than looking at the specific attributes of actors, SNA examines the relationships among actors and the characteristics of the networks in which they are embedded. Unlike parametric analyses that assume independence, SNA is interested in the connections between actors (interdependence). This session will introduce AEA attendees to the theoretical underpinnings of SNA and some of the types of things that can be calculated about actors, social relationships, and network structures. This session is geared for novices interested in SNA. |
