| Abstract: The evaluators of the California State Improvement Grant have fostered the use of data in California schools through the development and distribution of simple tools that electronically translate data into visual charts so people can SEE what is going on. This approach builds a data-engaged culture, eliminates turnaround between data collection and usable feedback, and helps leverage the resources of a small technical assistance project in describing program implementation and outcomes. Three data tools will be demonstrated. The TIC (Team Implementation Checklist) is an Excel file containing a survey form and providing instantaneous, longitudinal charts describing the responding sites' degree of program implementation. The CST (California Standards Test) Charting tool, another Excel file, allows users with minimal skills to create sophisticated charts representing the literacy proficiency levels of diverse populations over time. TED (Training Evaluation Database) is a Filemaker Pro event-tracking database which summarizes event evaluations with automatically generated charts. |
