Abstract: Across fields of service, evidence-based practices are in the spotlight. Funders that articulate their philosophy in relationship to evidence-based practices are better able to make informed choices about their grant making, as well as grantee evaluation and reporting requirements, and how to support their grantees. Grantees that understand their goals and capacity in relationship to evidence-based practices are better able to pursue funding arrangements that fit their organization and community. Drawing upon their years of work with early learning, family support and child abuse and neglect prevention funders in Hawaii and Washington State, presenters will share examples of different approaches that include supporting community-based programs' development along a continuum of evidence; capacity-building to support community-based organizations' development of evidence-informed practices; and support for implementation of evidence-based practices. Presenters will share a framework that describes approaches to evidence- and capacity-building and discusses implications for grant making and evaluation.
