| Abstract: Recent research indicates that approximately one-third of Local Health Officials (LHO) have been employed in their position at Local Health Departments (LHD) two years or less. In addition, the "aging" of the public health workforce over the next several years will evidence unprecedented openings in public health leadership positions. In response, the Survive and Thrive program was created to prepare new LHOs to succeed within the multi-faceted environment of local health practice. Correspondingly, a rigorous process was developed to evaluate program effectiveness and provide evidence of the impact of the Survive and Thrive program in building LHD capacity, developing effective leadership, and strengthening the infrastructure of local governmental public health. This demonstration will discuss the strategic development of the program evaluation, including its standardized measures and protocols. Further, implications of this evaluation process will be discussed with respect to evaluating the impact of leadership and executive development programs nationwide. |
