| Abstract: The objective of this workshop is to provide participants with resources and knowledge to analyze and interpret survey readability for the purpose of improving test reliability and validity. This 45 minute workshop will be conducted through hands-on practice and exploration of current software for readability testing. The session consists of a brief introduction to readability formulas and software, and small group activities with discussions. No prior knowledge of readability test or statistics is required. Specific readability formulas and utilization will be examined and discussed. Participants will use formulas to calculate the readability level of a survey, interpret results, and revise items to suit the intended audience. Participants will be expected to experiment with readability testing using software that will be provided or other current software versions. An electronic network will be set up for the participants that will provide a discussion forum on using readability tests for improving evaluation instruments. |
