| Abstract:
The Marimed Foundation treats youth in Hawaii who abuse substances, have difficulty controlling and understanding their emotions, and who have trouble adjusting to their schools, communities, and families. Boys and girls, typically between the ages of 15 and 16, who are experiencing adjustment and control difficulties, enter one of Marimed’s programs. The treatment offered is based on a combination of experiential education, with sail training at its center; school-based curricula; individual, family, and group therapy; and residential treatment.
The purpose of this session is to describe a long-term effort to develop a standing evaluation of the programs offered by Marimed. The challenges encountered will be presented and discussed along with the lessons learned from this experience.
