Abstract: Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) can now be installed in nearly every type of lighting fixture, save about $50 over the life of the bulb, and are available in different degrees of color warmth. Despite the wide availability of various CFL bulb types, most consumers choose not to install CFLs in all of their fixtures. Three main evaluation methods have been used to investigate motivation behind this purchasing behavior. In this presentation, we will discuss the advantages and limits of our experience with phone surveys, in-depth site visits, and in-store intercepts as evaluation methods to investigate this issue. Following this presentation, we will open the discussion to conference participants.
