| Abstract:
Evaluation capacity building has become a common practice for many evaluators. From our research with 15 organizations engaged in ECB, we found that evaluators tended to use one or more evaluation capacity building strategies. Most have used involvement in the evaluation process, training, technical assistance, written materials, technology, mentoring or coaching, and meetings, to help others learn from and about evaluation practice. In this think tank session, we will explore three questions: 1) Which evaluation capacity building strategies are most effective for achieving various individual and group level outcomes?, 2) Which strategies are most effective for certain kinds of participants?, and 3) How can different ECB strategies be designed for maximizing their impact on participant learning? Participants will be fully engaged in thinking about, discussing, and developing answers to these questions, and will leave with fresh ideas and perspectives for how they might augment their own ECB activities and processes.
