| Abstract: Increased accountability coupled with pressure to demonstrate impact and return on investment (ROI) has intensified in higher education. In addition to assessing student learning outcomes, postsecondary institutions must provide demonstrated evidence that show value-added aspects of any given program - including, faculty professional development programs. Evaluating outcomes and discerning impacts beyond satisfaction and reaction presents a challenge for many administrators, especially during times of increased competition and budgetary shortfalls. How can programs that assist faculty with online course (re)design, to facilitate student learning and promote improved learning outcomes, capture evidence of impact? This session explains pre-evaluation planning tools and techniques used in the design of a formative-summative evaluation using program theory and ROI methodology processes. This comprehensive strategy to measurement and program evaluation represents a promising, logical, and rational approach to address issues of accountability and elucidate higher levels of impact that inform decision-making decisions - while building evaluation capacity within academe. |
