Abstract: In this session, we will present a strategy for conceptualizing and evaluating a university's impact on strengthening and diversifying the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) pipeline and mainline. Activities being evaluated include: preK-16 Outreach, preK-16 Teacher Education and Professional Development; Undergraduate/Graduate Educational Reform, and Institutional Transformation. Challenges and opportunities associated with the evaluation of STEM Education Programs will be discussed including: sustainability, integration and coordination, focus, and intensity of intervention. The University of Illinois, with its strength in STEM research and myriad of NSF and NIH grants, will be used as an illustration of the use and application of this evaluation framework.
