| Abstract: Almost all development programs influence the status of women, and the cultural, economic and political relationships between men and women and among household members. Similarly, the success of most programs is affected by how well they understand and take into account the gendered relationships that determine how families, community groups, economic and political organizations respond to programs. Yet one of the weakest areas of program evaluation practice is the lack of adequate evaluation methodologies for understanding how gender affects the context within which programs are designed and operate. The purpose of the think tank is to share experiences among evaluators working internationally and in North America about how gender affects the context of the programs they are evaluating, the methods they have used for assessing gender and some of the challenges in convincing clients that gender issues matter. |
