| Abstract: This think tank focuses on the question: What are the special capacities required for international social change networks to perform with excellence? The authors will present through the lenses of systems thinking and complexity theory the nine generic capacities that in their experience (and that of others) appear vital for network performance. These are participation, governance and leadership, relationships management, adaptability, accountability and legitimacy, communication, knowledge management and funding. In breakout groups, participants will discuss the questions in the light of their own experience: Are these capacities truly unique to networks? How can their complexity be best explained? Are there other capacities that are equally or more vital for evaluating the performance of networks? |
