| Abstract: University training programs for evaluators seem to be declining (Engle, 2004), and certificate-based training programs are emerging (e.g., The Evaluator's Institute). Through debates on certification, credentialing, and accreditation, the field has questioned the appropriateness of various approaches to training (Worthen, 1999). At the same time, the field of evaluation has seen a growth in performance measurement (e.g., McDavid & Hawthorn, 2006; Newcomer, 1997). Within this context, Loyola University Chicago School of Education is in the process of developing a Masters Degree in Program Evaluation in collaboration with the School of Business for students in education, social services, and industry. Faculty members chose to integrate an emphasis on human performance technology (HPT) with program evaluation. We will provide background in HPT. We will then focus the discussion on the similarities and differences between HPT and program evaluation, and the advantages and challenges of integrating program evaluation and HPT. |
