Abstract: The Provincial Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health provides funding to organizations based in Ontario, Canada to build capacity for evaluation and research. For 2008-09, 22 service organizations were funded to develop evaluation plans and increase internal capacity for evaluation; 13 organizations were funded to implement their evaluation. To facilitate the review of funding for the second round of evaluation grants, we have developed a readiness and needs assessment tool. The assessment tool utilizes Preskill and Boyle's (2008) multidisciplinary model of evaluation capacity building by exploring leadership, organizational culture, structures and communication. The tool is also informed by the knowledge translation literature and our experiences over the past 5 years of funding program evaluation grants. In this workshop, we present the tool and the accompanying interview guide. Participants will be able to apply the tool to identify strengths and areas for improvement for building capacity in evaluation.
