| Abstract: While the clinical trials regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are held to the highest of scientific standards, the quality of clinical trials that are not regulated by the FDA rests upon the shoulders of the medical investigators and the journal editors to which these studies are often submitted for publication. The present paper will present an evaluation of the clinical trials conducted on the Chronic Care Model (CCM). The CCM is a popular method for enhancing standard pharmaceutical treatment of chronic illnesses by improving medical decisions, redesigning delivery systems, encouraging self-management, implementing clinical information systems, reorganizing the healthcare system, and providing referrals to community resources. This presentation will focus on whether these clinical trials demonstrate that the evidence-based movement is sustainable based on whether (1) researchers produced high quality studies, (2) journal editors detected poor studies, and (3) readers differentiate between substantiated and unsubstantiated results. |
