Abstract: This presentation highlights a participatory evaluation (PE) of a Banking Accessibility Pilot Project (BAPP), a community-driven partnership between Canadian Mental Health Association and Canada Trust/Toronto Dominion Bank. The year-long pilot provided 30 participants with 'severe mental illness' with no-fee bank accounts and accompanying supports. The goals of the project included increasing access to bank accounts, educating consumers about using financial services to improve money management skills, and educating bank employees about mental illness and adapting services to meet their needs. Three project participants were part of an evaluation team that conducted the project evaluation. This presentation will focus on the process of designing and implementing the evaluation and some of the benefits and challenges of doing it in this way. As the project evaluator, I will also critically examine the rationales for using a PE approach, based on follow up interviews with team members.
Roundtable Rotation II: At the Touch of a Button: Evaluation of On-Demand Patient Education

Abstract: This collaborative evaluation focuses on an On-Demand Patient Education television system and its success in a specific hospital in Lakeland, Florida. This formative evaluation involved the participation of various stakeholders for successful completion of the on-demand television evaluation. Mixed methods were used for data collection which enabled the evaluators, clients, and stakeholders to get a more complete picture of what was happening in this particular hospital. This allowed us to evaluate the significance for the nurses who encouraged their patients to use the on-demand television system for their own education regarding their particular disease states. Data gathering, such as the use of surveys and focus groups, allowed us to better understand the demands of the nurses, the benefits to the patients, and ultimately the value of on-demand education for hospitals.
