Sponsored by the Assessment in Higher Education TIG
Presenter(s):

Abstract: How do you know that students are learning the key concepts in or outside the classroom and that faculty members are creating an environment that enhances learning? Assessment is intended to improve student learning and provides those evaluating it with an opportunity to meaningfully reflect on how learning is best delivered, gather evidence, and then use information to make appropriate changes and measure the effect of those changes. The workshop will provide an overview of assessment, describe the necessary components and illustrate its value and benefits. This interactive session will focus on developing and assessing student learning outcomes for courses, degree programs, and co-curricular and extracurricular programs. Participants will work in groups to practice effective planning, development and evaluation of student learning. This workshop is appropriate for anyone who would like to broaden their understanding of how to link goals and objectives to student learning outcomes and systematic measurement.
