Abstract: The Comprehensive Organizational Assessment (COA) is a research-based tool developed by JVA Consulting to measure gains in nonprofit organizational capacity and guide capacity building training and technical assistance. Demonstration participants will learn about the COA’s 17 critical nonprofit capacity indicators and its use as a pre-post outcome measurement tool. The facilitator will compare characteristics and applications of the COA to 20 other organizational assessment tools currently used in the U.S. The COA’s background, including its use with 14 capacity building initiatives, will be presented. The facilitator will describe data collection methods used with the COA and demonstrate the interview process used with nonprofit leadership. Audience members will view a pre-populated COA and be invited to role-play the interview process. In conclusion, the facilitator will demonstrate consulting with nonprofit leadership to select action steps for improving organizational capacity. Each participant will receive a hard-copy sample of a completed COA report
