Quality Control Methods With Quantitative Data in a Randomized Control Trial Study for a Teacher Professional Development Evaluation

| Abstract:
Evaluating student outcomes based on standardized test scores and administrative student records is challenging under the best of circumstances. This presentation will address the challenges of data preparation and rigorous data analyses methods in a multi-year, multi-school district random assignment evaluation of a teacher professional development program in 50 schools. As with many studies, appropriate methods for handling missing data and accounting for multiple comparisons are crucial to the quality of the evaluation. This presentation highlights the necessity of incorporating such processes into proposal writing and study designs. Topics to be discussed include data acquisition; data management and preparation; selection of appropriate missing data analyses; sensitivity analyses; implications around the number of research questions selected; and application of multiple comparison methods.
