| Abstract: As the greater New Orleans (GNO) region is continuing to rebuild, the need for democratized data at the neighborhood level continues to grow. Instead of maximizing efforts, there is a great deal of duplication of data collection because agencies, organizations, and residents are unaware of what is already available. The Orleans Neighborhood Health Implementation Plan (ONHIP) is working to improve the availability of data through the development and use of a public website with neighborhood specific data and interactive mapping and query capability. This presentation will discuss which data sources are publicly available, the issues to consider when democratizing data, and its benefits and challenges. Data quality is of utmost importance as poor data can cause more harm than good. Participants will learn methods, including education, to ensure the quality of the data is maintained and to reduce any opportunities to misrepresent data. |
