Abstract: The B.Ed programme, launched by Indira Gandhi National Open University, India in January 2000 to cater to a felt-need, has expanded several-fold since then (from 2,000 learners to 25,000 learners). This paper is the outcome of an evaluation of the B.Ed programme adapting major tenets of the CIPP model. The findings are based on the responses from a randomly chosen sample of 858 learners and 62 teacher educators from across the country. The methods employed included documentary analysis and questionnaire based survey. The analysis showed that the programme was well designed and printed study materials were of high quality; the workload was perceived to be heavier; use of technology was rare and student-teachers lacked aptitude for problem solving and independent thinking. In spite of this, the success rate was above 90%. To improve the programme, it would be desirable to include IT related courses and considerably improve learner support services.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present and discuss the contributions of the evaluations carried out during the initial phase of implementation of the Olá Turista!. The program is developed by Roberto Marinho Foundation in association with the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism and aims to improve the reception services for foreign tourists in the 2014 World Cup. The program offers 80,000 free seats for online courses in English and Spanish, which include eighty hours of training. Accordingly, the evaluation processes which were addressed herein as to the contributions to the enhancement of the program are: the complete diagnosis - first action of the program - on the tourism sector in some of the cities where the project will be carried out; and the pilot phase, in which the course activities, the use of the material and the target students' profile were observed and tested.
