Analysis on Students' Educational Achievements in Japan

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze and find what factors affect students' educational achievements with the data of PISA. The results of PISA of Japan have been kept higher grade on average, however it is described in some recent studies that the score gaps among students have increased. If we consider or evaluate this situation, it needs to understand the structure and factors to affect students' achievements, first of all. Thus, in this study, we used PISA data. It provides us a rich data so that we can grasp the structure for educational achievements well. Method of this study is multilevel modeling; 2 level hieratical liner modeling.1st level is students' level index and 2nd level is school level index. Output is each literacy.
A Study of the Nationally Implemented School Evaluation System in Japan: What Effort Should be Nationally Made.

Abstract: The first purpose of this presentation is to let the audience have a visual understanding of Japanese school evaluation in practice through seeing my personal experiences as an evaluator or a designer of evaluation to public schools in Japan. And the second purpose is to evoke interesting dialogues between the audiences and the presenter, myself, that should yield precious ideas for better practices of school evaluation. This presentation consists of; a) a bird eye view of the Japanese school evaluation system, that was legislated within this decade. b) an instant explanation of the national trial project of the public school external evaluation. c) slideshow and panels of the details of the real public school external evaluation cases.
