Abstract: When thinking about goals it is important to quantify them so progress can be measured and assessed. However the need to be realistic about the goals we set and not put programs in the position of never being able to achieve goals is vitally important. Goals should be based on knowledge and rationality rather than emotion. A rational approach uses past performance and an assessment of the current environment to set an ambitious, yet realistic trajectory for improvement, or to attain desired results. The methodology, in addition to providing a logical and justifiable approach, assists program and funder leadership understanding of what resources are needed to achieve desired outcomes. In this skill building session, participants will practice using Rational Target Setting Methodology via case studies and discuss how the methodology can be used to facilitate conversations and learning with stakeholders.
