Abstract: The tools used to evaluate service delivery projects are sometimes ill-suited to assessing the impact of policy advocacy. They lack the flexibility advocates need to respond to fast-moving changes in the policy climate. The Advocacy Progress Planner (APP) is a free online tool for advocates and funders who want to monitor and evaluate the impact of their advocacy efforts. While the tool itself is user friendly, the questions it asks challenge users to think strategically about how they might identify and track progress towards indicators of success. The APP allows for ongoing evaluation throughout the course of a project so that users may learn as they go. Presenters from the Advocacy Planning and Evaluation Program at the Aspen Institute will demonstrate the tool, highlight new features from the 2011 re-launch, and discuss examples of how funders and advocates have benefited from incorporating the tool into their work.
