| Abstract:
The primary purpose of this demonstration is to illustrate a variety of ways to use hand-on, interactive activities to teach evaluation concepts. These can be used in a formal classroom or to build capacity within the organization you work. Everything from understanding the difference between research and evaluation to collecting and analyzing data can be taught using fun and energizing activities that keep people engaged. Following a brief discussion of the benefits of activity-based learning, the presenter will facilitate the group in a variety of activities. Participants will learn how to introduce, facilitate, and debrief activities in a way that ties the learner's experience to the concepts, theories, and practices being taught. Finally, participants will utilize tools like climbing ropes, tinker toys, and tent poles to play, create, and operationalize important evaluation concepts. Participants will leave with new strategies and fresh ideas for teaching evaluation and building evaluation capacity.
