| Abstract: This demonstration will review a selection of metrics and visualizations used in bibliometric research evaluation. Thomson Reuters, formerly Institute for Scientific Information, is the originator of the first multidisciplinary citation index (Science Citation Index), and has been working in the field of bibliometrics for over 50 years. Over this period, the use of bibliometric techniques to measure the output and impact of scholarly research of countries, institutions, research groups, and individuals has become an established method of quantitative research assessment. Bibliometrics have been adopted widely around the globe because they reflect key values of sound assessment: they are repeatable, transparent, and easily understood. We will review well-established metrics such as the journal impact factor, as well as newer metrics like h-index, Eigenfactor™, and aggregate performance indicator. Methods of visualizing bibliometric data for the purposes of decision making will also be discussed. |
