| Abstract:
Data flow diagrams (DFDs) are commonly used to visualize the flow of data in a system, which can also be used to manage international development projects. DFDs can be used for illustrating project systems and processes, for example DFD can be used to visualize project M&E systems for project users and customers. This session will use international development case studies to highlight DFD use as a management tool. In my case studies, DFDs are used as a graphic representation of the M&E system to understand the system as a whole, highlight data quality points, and understand the "data flow". Within this context, "data flow" refers to data collection, entry (transcription), processing (transformation), synthesis, analysis, use and storage. In fact, these are the key data quality check points that can effect overall data quality, whose value and function becomes compromised if the check points are weak or not in compliant.
