Abstract: Attendees will help us improve our ability to bring transformative organizational change to industry. The session will describe successful multi-year organizational change programs that incorporated group problem solving and changes in organizational culture. While successful, these programs have been difficult to sustain. A major difficulty is that participating companies seldom integrate appropriate performance measurement systems with the innovation. Our program theory for the design and implementation of performance measurement systems to sustain organizational change is rudimentary at best. The session will begin with an overview of the programs, their outcomes and impacts, and a proposed theory of how to sustain long-term organizational change through logic modeling and the institutionalization of performance management systems. After discussion, breakout groups will sketch logic models of appropriate performance measurement systems designed to sustain organizational performance. The session will conclude with a comparison of the models and a discussion of their relative strengths and weaknesses.
