Session Title: When Good Evaluations Go Bad: Lessons for New Evaluators
Demonstration Session 640 to be held in Salinas on Friday, Nov 4, 10:45 AM to 11:30 AM
Sponsored by the Graduate Student and New Evaluator TIG
Presenter(s):

Abstract: As new evaluators, we began work on a fairly large educational evaluation project filled with excitement and hopes of making an impact. It soon became clear, however, that things were not going to go as planned-and we learned several practical lessons about evaluation the hard way. In discussions with colleagues after the project was finished, we discovered that every evaluator has a similar list of things they wish they had known starting out. We propose to open a discussion with other new evaluators by sharing our lessons learned and mistakes made. At the conclusion of the demonstration, we will present a checklist synthesized from Dr. Daniel Stufflebeam's "Evaluation Contracts Checklist", filtered through the lens of our own experience.
