| Abstract: Evaluators have long valued evaluation use, both by decision makers and practitioners in the contexts at hand. But what about the broader community? The concept of knowledge translation addresses the steps between the creation of new knowledge and its application to outcomes including benefits for citizens, effective services and products, and strengthened social systems. It explores the exchange of knowledge between researchers and users to accelerate the knowledge-to-action process. Dr. Melanie Barwick is a Registered Psychologist and Health Systems Research Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. Since 2001 she has implemented an outcome measure in 117 children's mental health service provider organizations and providing training to over 5,000 practitioners. In this practice context she studies innovative health knowledge translation strategies and has developed the Scientist Knowledge Translation Training Program. She currently leads a 5-year innovative project in Knowledge Translation for Child and Youth Mental Health. |
