Abstract: Knowledge translation in health and education involves the active ongoing use of credible evidence, usually based on research findings. In the field of mental health, effective treatments are moderated by the quality of therapeutic relationships, and influenced by practitioner experiences and intuition. Evaluation of mental health programs provides value in providing evidence on what works in real-life and enriches knowledge of what works in research settings. Evaluation of clinical practice also provides practitioners with an equal voice to those of researchers in determining credible evidence. This session will discuss the value of evaluation in closing the loop in the knowledge translation process and the value of evaluation in 'practice-based evidence.' We will present some of our experiences in evaluation at the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health. Attendees will be encouraged to share their strategies in situating the value of evaluation in the knowledge translation process.
