| Abstract: Evaluators are often faced with the task of choosing which and whose values to highlight during evaluations. Even more daunting can be the task of conveying participant values to stakeholders who may have their own set of differing values. The purpose of this presentation will be to explore two cultural nuances and argue for the importance of an evaluation team that understands the values of program participants. Further, we urge evaluators to present participant values, particularly sensitive topics to stakeholders in a creative way that fully showcases these complex dimensions. Presenters explore this topic through two skits. The nuances examined will be the importance of 1) call-and-response in African-American culture and 2) talking along with the speaker to show support in the Latino culture (Gay, 2000). Presenters will perform scenarios demonstrating how to present these sensitive issues professionally but creatively in a way that stakeholders themselves can engage with. |
