Hello! We are Katharina Hammler (Performance & Evaluation Branch Manager) and Ricardo Basurto-Dávila (Chief Evaluation Officer) from the County of San Diego’s Office of Evaluation, Performance, and Analytics (OEPA). Established in 2021, OEPA is one of the first of its kind in local government. In this post, we share highlights and lessons from our first few years of existence.
OEPA was created by the County’s Board of Supervisors to promote evidence-based policymaking. Our responsibilities include providing leadership, coordination, and capacity-building around evidence-based policymaking, program evaluation, data sharing, data collection, and metrics.
Fortunately, there are a lot of great resources available to help those working to bring evaluative thinking to local governments. A few resources that we have found useful include:
The American Evaluation Association is hosting Gov’t Eval TIG Week with our colleagues in the Government Evaluation Topical Interest Group. The contributions all this week to AEA365 come from our Gov’t Eval TIG members. Do you have questions, concerns, kudos, or content to extend this AEA365 contribution? Please add them in the comments section for this post on the AEA365 webpage so that we may enrich our community of practice. Would you like to submit an AEA365 Tip? Please send a note of interest to AEA365@eval.org. AEA365 is sponsored by the American Evaluation Association and provides a Tip-a-Day by and for evaluators. The views and opinions expressed on the AEA365 blog are solely those of the original authors and other contributors.
